Simple Ingredients Oreo Peanut Butter Pie
- Oreo Cookie Crust | Make the delicious chocolatey crust with Oreo cookie crumbs and melted butter. Use gluten-free Oreo’s for a gluten-free pie!
- Peanut butter filling | I like using crunchy peanut butter to add texture to this creamy filling. If preferred, use creamy or natural peanut butter, but make sure it’s a no-stir type of natural peanut butter, as pure peanut butter will be too oily for this silky filling.
- Powdered sugar (aka confectioner’s sugar) for consistency and sweetness.
- Butter | You will use melted and room temperature butter in this recipe!
- Ganache | I used semi-sweet chocolate; I like baking chocolate bars like Ghirardelli or Bakers chocolate.
How to Make Peanut Butter Pie with Oreo Crust
Step 1 | Make the crust
I recommended baking or freezing the crust before adding the filling to help it hold together when serving.
Preheat the oven to 350° F (175° C) if you want to bake the Oreo crust. Either way, add the Oreo cookies to a food processor and pulse until they are fine crumbs. Or place cookies in a sturdy baggie and, using a rolling pin, crush and then roll cookies until fine crumbs.
Transfer the crumbs to a bowl and stir in the melted butter until the cookie crumbs are moistened. Press the crust evenly into the tart pan or pie plate using a measuring cup or the backside of a spoon to pack and smooth.
Then, bake the crust for five minutes and set it aside to cool completely, or freeze it for 30 minutes as you continue filling.
Fresh Tips
- When making an Oreo cookie crust, many ask me if I leave the filling in the cookies? The answer is a resounding YES! You can, of course, scrape out the creme mixture, but it adds to the flavor and texture of the crust. I typically use regular Oreos, but Double Stuff Oreos may also be used in a pinch.
- You do not need to use Oreo brand of cookies! Feel free to use your favorite chocolate creme sandwich cookie! I like these organic ones!
Step 2 | Make peanut butter pie filling
Next, combine the peanut butter and powdered sugar in a medium bowl. Stir the mixture with a spoon, spatula, or hand mixer until the texture is smooth. Spread peanut butter mixture evenly over the chocolate crust and refrigerate.
If your mixture is too stiff, try microwaving it for 15-20 seconds. Stir well, then spread and chill.
Step 3 | Make chocolate ganache, chill, and serve!
Melt the chocolate and butter using the double boiler method. Place the ingredients in a small bowl over a pan of simmering water without the bowl touching the water. Stir continuously until the ingredients are melted.
Then, spread the creamy chocolate ganache over the peanut butter layer and chill for at least 30 minutes until firm. You may freeze or refrigerate.
Can I make chocolate ganache in microwave?
Yes! In a microwave-safe bowl add chocolate and butter cut into chunks, heat in 30 second bursts, stirring really well between heatings, it should only take about 60-90 seconds to melt completely.
Fresh Tips
- If your chocolate “breaks” or “seizes,” check out my chocolate ganache post on how to fix it, don’t throw it away! Try adding a splash of heavy cream and whisking well until smooth.
How to serve peanut butter pie
Warm a sharp knife in hot water, and dry well with paper towel. To remove the pie from the tart pan, place pan on hand or on smaller sturdy cake pedestal and allow outer ring to drop.
Slice small pieces as this is a rich and decadent pie; if desired, serve with whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and some chopped dry roasted peanuts.

Dairy-Free Peanut Butter Pie (Vegan too)
All you need to do is replace the butter with a dairy-free or plant-based substitute. If you choose vegan butter rather than just dairy-free, you’ll also have a Vegan Peanut Butter Pie as classic Oreo’s are naturally vegan!
Extra Chocolatey Peanut Butter Oreo Pie
Why not add a layer of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Reese’s Pieces for more chocolate and peanut butter goodness? Delish!
Substitutions
Replace the Oreo’s with Nutter Butters cookies and use peanut butter chips for the topping if desired.
Fresh Tips
- It may be easier to warm the peanut butter before mixing it with the sugar, just 20 seconds or so in the microwave, then after mixing with sugar, spread in the pie dish.
- There’s no need to grease the tart pan or pie pan because the crust is made with melted butter.
Storage Tips
Refrigerate – Make this dessert ahead for a party or store the leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to four days.
How to Freeze – This is an excellent dessert to freeze and save for later! Place the pie in freezer for 30 minutes, then tightly wrap the pie with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer the slices to freezer-safe plastic bags and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and enjoy the next day!
