Simple Ingredients for Oreo Dip
- Cream cheese | Take out your cream cheese to soften to room temperature for the best blending.
- Sugar | Powdered sugar, also called confectioners sugar.
- Vanilla | Add depth of flavor with vanilla extract.
- Heavy cream | I use homemade Cool Whip for a healthier take on this delicious recipe, or head to the grocery store and grab some whipped topping, such as Cool Whip (psst, but don’t!).
- Oreos | Of course, you need chocolate sandwich cookies. The top brand, of course is Oreo, but feel free to use a gluten-free or organic chocolate creme sandwich cookie, too.
- Dippers | Some of my favorite dippers for this Oreo fluff recipe are strawberries, graham crackers, pretzels, other cookies, and marshmallows – Yum!
How to Make This Easy Oreo Fluff Recipe
Don’t blink, or you’ll be done with this easy, sweet dessert dip recipe. It’s that fast!
Step 1 | Make the Cool Whip substitute
First, make the homemade whipped topping by whipping the heavy cream in a stand mixer or with a hand mixer and a medium bowl.
Mix in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and place it in the fridge until it’s time to fold it in.
Step 2 | Crush Oreo cookies
Place Oreos or your favorite sandwich cream cookies in a sturdy ziplock baggie, wack a few times with a rolling pin, then roll until the cookies crumble. Stop when you have a good mixture of chunks and fine crumbs.
Recommended Tools
- This is my favorite hand mixer!
- You need a solid spatula, I love these!
Step 3 | Beat cream cheese base
Next, beat the room-temperature cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together in a separate bowl until smooth and fluffy.
Fresh Tips
- It’s easier to combine the cream cheese with the other ingredients when it is softened to room temperature. Otherwise, you can use a whipped cream cheese product to make mixing easier.
- Keep the crushed cookies a bit coarse for the perfect texture.
Step 4 | Finish Oreo cookie dip
Then, take the whipped cream out of the fridge and fold in with the cream cheese mix until the ingredients are fully blended. Finally, gently fold in the crushed Oreo cookies, garnishing with additional Oreo crumbles.
And, if you can wait, chill the dip for 30 minutes before serving, then dig on in! I recommend tasting a spoonful before it goes in the fridge – for quality control. 😉
Fresh Tips
- It’s best to let the flavors develop by allowing the dip to chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- For a delicious experience with this recipe for Oreo dip, provide a balance of salty and sweet dippers.

Serving Suggestion: Spoon or pipe this Oreo fluff recipe to a parfait glass or top another dessert, like fresh-baked brownies; it will be a huge hit.
Change the Extract: Switch the vanilla extract for another, like caramel, almond, or a fruity flavor.
Gluten-Free Oreo Fluff
Swap the regular Oreos with gluten-free Oreos or your favorite GF sandwich cookie in this easy dessert.
Vegan Oreo Mousse
Did you know that Oreo’s are naturally vegan!? Yep! So use your favorite plant-based cream cheese and your favorite non-dairy whipped topping and you are golden! This Oreo mousse will have everyone swooning!
Lower Sugar Oreo Mousse
While you cannot make this recipe sugar-free or low-carb (hello cookies), unless you find sugar-free Oreos or other sandwich cream cookies, but you can reduce the sugar. Use a monk fruit powdered sugar replacement; this is my favorite brand.
Storage Tips
Refrigerate – The best way to save leftovers of Oreo fluff is to store it in an airtight container or cover the large bowl tightly with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Though as usual, depending on your fridge, it might last longer, do the sniff test if it smells off, don’t eat it.
How long can Oreo fluff salad stay out?
This is another judgement call, if you are serving this dessert dip outside on a hot day, probably only about an hour, though you can extend that by placing the bowl inside a bowl of ice, giving it another hour.
If you are serving for game day in the chill of winter, your dip can safely stay out for 2 hours. If needed only put out a little at a time, keeping the remaining dip in the fridge and refilling the bowl as needed.
Can I freeze Oreo dip?
I don’t suggest freezing Oreo salad because of the dairy content. The cream tends to separate when thawed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! Switch up this Oreo dessert recipe with vanilla Oreos, double-stuffed for extra cookie cream, or birthday cake for festive fun.
It’s easy! Place the Oreos in a plastic bag, seal, and use a rolling pin to crush the cookies until they are coarse but crumbled. You can also use a food processor if you have one handy.
This dip is great to make ahead, it improves with time in the fridge. Mix them in to keep the cookies crisp just before serving, as they soften when left in the dip for too long, affecting the overall texture and experience.
You want the cream cheese to be soft, so it effortlessly combines with the other ingredients and produces fewer clumps. If you forget to set it out at room temperature, microwave the block for 10 seconds until it’s softened and spreadable.

- Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature so it is easier to work with.
- Balance your dippers with salty and sweet items, like pretzels. Berries are delicious as well for the bit of tart that they add.
