Why You Will Love This Recipe for Chocolate Fruit Dip

  • No-Bake Recipe – All you need to do is mix the ingredients and chill the easy chocolate dip for later– Easy!
  • Guilt-Free Chocolate Dip – The best part of this easy recipe is I’ve reduced the sugar!
  • Crowd-pleaser – This healthier chocolate dip recipe is great for special occasions, potlucks, and Valentine’s Day parties.
  • Gluten-Free – We love serving delicious gluten-free treats for our friends and family!

Healthy Twist

  • Zero-Sugar Dip – Use a sugar-free replacement to make this recipe sugar-free!
  • Replace the Cream Cheese – Swap the cream cheese for plain Greek yogurt or a combination.
  • Choose Healthy Dippers – Pick healthier dippers, like a fresh fruit tray.

Chocolate Fruit Dip Simple Ingredients

  • Heavy cream | Freshly whipped heavy cream is an excellent replacement for the typical cool whip added to chocolate fruit dips. Essentially we’re making our own cool whip.
  • Cream cheese | I used organic full-fat cream cheese, but you can use low-fat or Neufchâtel cheese.
  • Powdered sugar | Also called confectioners and icing sugar, sweetens the fruit dip.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder | I like using high-quality cocoa powder, <- my favorite.
  • Vanilla | Just a few drops of vanilla extract deepen the dip flavor.

What to Dip in Your Chocolate Fruit Dip

Serve the chocolate dip with your favorite fruits, gooey marshmallows, crispy graham crackers, and salty pretzels for dipping!

Fresh Tips

  • Allow the cream cheese to come to room temperature, it will mix better with the other ingredients.
  • Adjust sweetness to your liking by reducing or adding more sugar.

How to Make Healthy Chocolate Dip for Fruit

Start this recipe by adding the heavy cream to a medium bowl and use a hand mixer or a stand mixer to whip the cream until it forms stiff peaks, place in fridge until ready to use.

Whipped heavy cream ready to fold in.

Next, add the cream cheese, sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla to another bowl. Then, whip the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. I liked using a hand mixer for this easy recipe.

Lastly, garnish the healthy fruit dip with mini chocolate chips or shavings, chill, and serve!

Best Dippers for Healthy Chocolate Fruit Dip

Serve with fresh fruit, crackers, cookies, pound cake, and more! Try it with classic animal crackers, peanut butter cookies, and vanilla wafers. It would be delicious with my Fall Charcuterie Board.

Fruit Dipping Options

Surround a bowl of this creamy chocolate dip with the following fruits:

  • Berries – Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and more! Fresh berries are perfect for this sweet and fluffy fruit dip. For smaller berries, like blueberries, use skewers or toothpicks to make dipping easier!
  • Grapes – Skewer a few and place them on a tray to make it easier!
  • Tropical fruits – Pineapple spears, sliced kiwi, sliced bananas and mangos are excellent options for dipping into this creamy fruit dip.
  • Pears and Apples – Crispy sliced apples and pears are wonderful in the fall and winter months.
  • Melons – Cantaloupe and watermelon, use a melon baller or cut into cubes.
  • Peaches – Peaches or nectarines would be great with this easy fruit dip.
  • Oranges – Peel cuties or mandarin oranges, or sweet naval oranges for dipping. Something about chocolate and orange!

More Fresh Tips

  • The longer the dip chills, the thicker it will become. For the perfect dipping consistency, remove it from the fridge about 20 minutes before serving.
  • Consider sifting the cocoa powder before adding it to the recipe to make it easier to mix in.
  • Garnish the dip with dark chocolate shavings for a rich and deep flavor.

Variations & Substitutions

  • Swap the Extract: Add a hint of something different with cherry, strawberry, hazelnut, or caramel extracts rather than the classic vanilla.
  • Add Chocolate Chips: Sprinkle in mini semi-sweet chocolate chips for texture and extra chocolatey goodness!
  • Choco-Peanut Butter: Put a peanut butter twist to the creamy chocolate fruit dip by including half a cup of peanut butter in the cream cheese mixture. Microwave it for a few seconds and stir until smooth.
  • Mint Chocolate Dip: Add a few drops of peppermint extract for a refreshing mint flavor.
  • Fruity Chocolate Fruit Dip: Replace the powdered sugar with raspberry or strawberry jam or preserves – Yum!
  • Nutella Chocolate Fruit Dip: Add a few tablespoons of stirred hazelnut spread, like Nutella.

Recommended Equipment

  • Sturdy Spatula – this is my favorite spatula brand.
  • No need to break out the stand mixer for this recipe, this hand mixer is my favorite.
  • Love these glass bowls with lids.

How to Make Individual Chocolate Fruit Dip Cups

Like my charcuterie cups, create little cups of walking fruit dip, great for kids parties!

Place a dollop of chocolate fruit dip in the bottom of a shallow cup, skewer some berries, marshmallows and grapes, place into the cup, then add some graham crackers or cookies and your favorite fruits.

Equipment

  • Tovolo Spatula

US Customary – Metric

  • 1 cup heavy cream I used organic, heavy whipping cream, you may replace with about 2 cups dessert topping (ie. Cool Whip)

  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar or sugar-free powdered sugar replacement
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder unsweetened, sifted for best results
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract* *swap with other extracts for different flavors.
  • 1-2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips optional, to garnish the dip

Dipping Suggestions

  • Strawberries, Blackberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Bananas, orange segments, apples, peaches, melons, etc. Non fruit dippers: marshmallows, graham crackers, shortbread, pound cake, cookies, and pretzels for dipping
Get Recipe Ingredients

Instructions

  • Pour the heavy cream (1 cup) into a medium size bowl, using a hand mixer, whip until stiff peaks form. Place in fridge until ready to use.
  • In another bowl, add the cream cheese (8 ounces, soft), sugar (⅔ cup), cocoa powder (⅓ cup) and vanilla extract (1 tsp). Using the mixer, whip until everything is smooth, light and creamy.
  • Fold the whipped cream to the chocolate mixture, and stir until fully incorporated. You can use the mixer on a low speed, or just fold in by hand.
  • Garnish with mini chocolate chips (a few tablespoons) or chocolate shavings, if desired. Chill until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Cream cheese must be at room temperature to blend easily with the other ingredients.
  • The sweetness of the chocolate fruit dip can be adjusted to personal preference. If you prefer a sweeter dip, increase the amount of sugar. Likewise, you can reduce the amount of sugar.
  • The dip will thicken slightly upon chilling; remove from the fridge for 20 minutes before serving if a softer dip is desired.
  • Sifting the cocoa powder will make it easier to incorporate.
Variations & Substitutions
Change the Flavor | Substitute the vanilla extract with another flavor—a few suggestions: cherry extract, strawberry extract, hazelnut extract, or caramel extract.
Chocolate Chocolate Chip Fruit Dip | Stir in ¼ cup mini chocolate chips to the fruit dip or chopped semi-sweet or white chocolate chips.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Fruit Dip | Make the recipe as directed, but mix ½ cup of creamy peanut butter into the cream cheese mixture ½ cup of creamy peanut butter until smooth. Then fold whipped cream into the chocolate peanut butter mixture. Delicious with apples and bananas!
Mint Chocolate Fruit Dip | Follow the original recipe but stir in ½ teaspoon of peppermint and vanilla extract. Delicious served with mint Oreos, Thin Mints, or Chocolate Wafer cookies.
Raspberry Chocolate Fruit Dip | Prepare the original recipe, but instead of powdered sugar, use ½ cup of raspberry jam or preserves. Mix the raspberry jam or preserves with the cream cheese until well combined before adding the other ingredients. Garnish and serve with fresh raspberries.
Strawberry Chocolate Fruit Dip | Do the same as above, but instead of raspberry jam, use strawberry jam (try my low-sugar strawberry jam recipe). Garnish with fresh strawberries.
Storage
Store covered in an airtight container up to 7 days in the refrigerator, I do not recommend freezing. Leave the dip at room temperature for 2 hours max without ice underneath.
