Healthy Twist 3 ingredient Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

  • Sugar-Free Whipped Cream – Made healthier by not using Cool Whip, just unsweetened whipped cream.
  • No Marshmallow Creme – While lightly sweetened, it’s not overly sweet with marshmallow creme!

Simple Ingredients

Okay, so technically, it’s 4 ingredients, but can you count vanilla as an ingredient? 🙂

Cream cheese | Silky and creamy regular cream cheese is an excellent base for this sweetened fruit dip recipe; feel free to swap out Neufchatel or low-fat cream cheese.

Powdered sugar | Sweeten the fruit dip with powdered sugar that easily dissolves in the recipe, or try using brown sugar too! For a sugar-free dip, use a good powdered sugar-free replacement.

Vanilla | Add a splash of vanilla extract for a creamier and richer taste.

Heavy Whipping Cream | We’ll make our own Cool Whip, unsweetened using heavy whipping cream, you can substitute Cool Whip if preferred, but I suggest reducing the sugar then.

Fresh fruit | Serve the sweet dip with your favorite fresh fruits, like berries, melon cubes, pineapple slices, and juicy grapes. Choose colorful variations if you want your fruit tray to really pop!

How to Make Cream Cheese Fruit Dip

You will love how easy and fast this dip recipe whips up! Here is all you need to do.

In a medium-large mixing bowl, using a hand mixer, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, place in fridge until ready to mix.

In another medium bowl, add softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to a large bowl. Then grab a hand mixer or stand mixer to whisk the ingredients until well combined.

Fresh Tips

  • If using store-bought whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), omit the added sugar in this recipe as it may be too sweet.
  • Remember to soften the cream cheese on the countertop before mixing it with the other ingredients. This will help the dip become silky smooth, while cold cream cheese is more difficult to combine with the recipe and often results in lumps.

Fold or with the mixer on low, mix in the freshly made or store-bought whipped cream to the bowl and mix until it’s incorporated.

It may be served immediately with your favorite fruits, or chill the recipe until you’re ready to serve.

See, I told you there is nothing to it! But it is always a hit at parties. You are welcome!

Fresh Tips

  • For the best fruit dip, let it chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before digging in to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to thicken.
  • Garnish with colorful fresh fruit slices and a mint leaf or two if desired. Serve in a fancy serving bowl to match the event or holiday.

Variations & Substitutions

Hint of Citrus: Put a subtle twist on this easy recipe with a pinch or two of lemon zest or orange zest and a sprinkle of salt to enhance the flavor of the creamy dip.

Fruity Fruit Dip: Add a fruity flavor with fruit puree added to the cream cheese mixture. Try mango or strawberry puree, and be sure to strain it beforehand, or swirl in a little strawberry jam

Switch the Extract: For a little more flavor, swap the creamy vanilla extract for strawberrylemonmaple extract, cherry, almond extract or even caramel extract.

Fall Flavors: With autumn right around the corner, this fruit dip is easily made into a seasonal recipe by adding warm spices like cinnamon (½ -1 tsp) and nutmeg (¼ tsp).

Chocolate Fruit Dip: If preferred, make a chocolatey fruit dip perfect for banana and apple slices by mixing in unsweetened cocoa powder; check out my chocolate dip for fruit recipe.

Flavored Cream Cheese: You can also personalize the fruit dip using flavored cream cheese instead of plain cream cheese. Try strawberry cream cheese fruit dip with a tablespoon of strawberry jam and use strawberry cream cheese.

Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Fruit Dip | YES! Mix in ½- ⅔  cup pumpkin puree and 1 tsp pumpkin spice mix.

Yogurt Fruit Dip

If trying to eat even healthier try replacing the cream cheese and whipped cream with equal parts of plain Greek Yogurt, I would use whole milk, personally, but lower percentages may also be used.

Keto Fruit Dip (low-carb)

Make this fruit dip low-carb by simply replacing the powdered sugar with sugar-free powdered sugar, I like monk fruit; start with a little less and adjust to taste.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make fruit dip in advance?

Yes! The flavor is often better when the cream cheese dip chills for a few hours! If you prepare the dip, store it appropriately, and use it five-seven days, you’re good to go – Give it a good stir and serve with freshly sliced fruit.

What fruits go well with fruit dip?

This fruit dip recipe is perfect for just about any type of fruit, including juicy berries, like strawberries and blueberries; tropical fruits, like mango and pineapple; and mild ones, like watermelon or cantaloupe. Choose fruits with vibrant and varied colors for the best presentation, making an eye-catching display.

How do you make homemade whipped cream?

Use an electric mixer to whip 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks. Then, carefully add in the sugar. Powdered sugar works best because it dissolves easily. However, granulated sugar will also do the trick. If desired, deepen the flavor with a few drops of vanilla extract. Check out my easy-to-follow recipe if you need more information. But for this recipe, we use unsweetened whipped cream.

What happens if you forget to soften the cream cheese before making the fruit dip?

The cream cheese needs to be soft to combine with the other ingredients easily. While leaving it at room temperature for about half an hour is best, you can also microwave the block in 10-second intervals until softened when you’re in a pinch.

Storage Tips

Refrigerate – Keep leftover fruit dip in the refrigerator for 5-7 days, sealed in an airtight container. To serve again, remove from fridge for 20 minutes, whisking or stirring until soft and fluffy.

Can You Freeze Fruit Dip

It’s not suggested to freeze homemade fruit dip because of the dairy content that may separate and alter the texture and taste once thawed.

Best Fruit Dippers

Surround a bowl of this creamy fruit dip with the following fruits:

  • Berries – Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and more! Fresh berries are perfect for this sweet and fluffy fruit dip. For smaller berries, like blueberries and raspberries, use skewers or toothpicks to make dipping easier!
  • Grapes – Skewer a few and place them on a tray to make it easier!
  • Tropical fruits – Pineapple spears, sliced kiwi, sliced bananas, and mangos are excellent options for dipping into this creamy fruit dip.
  • Pears and Apples – Crispy sliced apples and pears are wonderful in the fall and winter.
  • Melons – Cantaloupe and watermelon, use a melon baller or cut into cubes.
  • Peaches – Peaches, plums, and nectarines would be great with this easy fruit dip.
  • Oranges – Peel cuties, mandarin, or sweet naval oranges for dipping. Something about chocolate and orange!

Best Non-Fruit Dippers for 3 ingredient cream cheese fruit dip

Here are a few of our favorite non-fruit dippers to scoop this easy fruit dip recipe into your mouth!

  • Crackers | We love graham crackers; try regular, cinnamon sugar, honey, chocolate, and gluten-free graham crackers too! We also love Effie’s Oat Crackers!
  • Sweet & Salty | Combine the sweet and salty flavors using salted pretzels, Wheat Thins, or other lightly salted goodies.
  • Cookies | Try animal crackers, vanilla wafers, and shortbread (gotta try this easy homemade recipe).
  • Try pound cake or shortcake, regular and chocolate!
  • Don’t forget marshmallows! They make every party better!

Chilling the dip before serving is always recommended – It allows the recipe to thicken and the flavors to develop further and meld.

You may want to decrease or eliminate the sugar if you use whipped topping (such as Cool Whip) instead of whipped cream.
Storage Tips
Refrigerate – Keep leftover fruit dip in the refrigerator for 5-7 days, sealed in an airtight container. To serve again, remove from fridge for 20 minutes, whisking or stirring until soft and fluffy. Do not freeze.
Pro Tips
  • Soften the cream cheese: For that smooth and creamy texture, make sure your cream cheese is fully softened before using it. It’s best to leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes. You can microwave it in short 10-second bursts, checking often.
  • Chill before serving: After preparing the fruit dip, allow it to chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Chilling enhances the flavors and helps the dip thicken slightly, making it easier to dip and enjoy.
  • Use powdered sugar: Powdered sugar dissolves more easily and gives a smoother texture than granulated sugar.
  • Garnish for presentation: Consider adding a few fresh fruit slices or a mint leaf to garnish the fruit dip before serving.
Variations & Substitutions
  • Hint of Citrus: Put a subtle twist on this easy recipe with a pinch or two of lemon zest or orange zest and a sprinkle of salt to enhance the flavor of the creamy dip.
  • Fruity Fruit Dip: Add a fruity flavor with fruit puree to the cream cheese mixture. Try mango or strawberry puree, and be sure to strain it beforehand or swirl in a little strawberry jam
  • Switch the Extract: For a little more flavor, swap the creamy vanilla extract for strawberrylemonmaple extract, cherry, almond extract or even caramel extract.
  • Fall Flavors: Make a great Autumn dip by adding warm spices like cinnamon (½ -1 tsp) and nutmeg (¼ tsp).
  • Chocolate Fruit Dip: If preferred, make a chocolatey fruit dip perfect for banana and apple slices by mixing in unsweetened cocoa powder; check out my chocolate dip for fruit recipe.
  • Flavored Cream Cheese: Try using flavored cream cheese instead of plain cream cheese. Add a tablespoon of strawberry jam and use strawberry cream cheese.
  • Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Fruit Dip | Mix in ½- ⅔  cup pumpkin puree and 1 tsp pumpkin spice mix.
