What are turkey tenderloins?
Turkey tenderloins are a boneless and lean cut of meat from the turkey, typically taken from the skinless portion of the turkey breast. They are a tender cut of meat, a great lean protein, and mildly flavored, making them a popular choice for various recipes.
Turkey tenderloins can be made in different ways; grilled, roasted, sautéed, or used in multiple dishes like chicken breast, sandwiches, stir-fries, and salads. Turkey tenderloins come in all shapes and sizes too. Mine were smaller, but sometimes they can be as large as 1-2 pounds each.

Simple Ingredients for Air Fryer Turkey Tenderloin
- Turkey Tenderloins | Like people, turkey tenderloins come in all shapes, weights, and sizes. Be sure to choose ones that aren’t pre-seasoned, as they are commonly sold at the grocery store.
- Oil | Use olive or avocado oil to prep the air fryer and adhere the dry rub to the tenderloin.
- Turkey Tenderloin Rub | Season the turkey with smoked paprika, garlic powder, dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, marjoram, and salt and pepper. I like to use kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Also, add a bit of freshly grated nutmeg for fall flavor.
- Fresh Herbs | Add a sprig of fresh rosemary and thyme, adding color to the dish.

How to Make Turkey Tenderloin Air Fryer
Step 1 | Preheat and prep
Before beginning the recipe, remove the turkey tenderloins from the fridge for around 30 minutes and pat them dry with paper towels. Preheat the air fryer to 400° F (205° C) and lightly coat the air fryer basket or tray with oil.
Fresh Tips
- All air fryers heat differently; get a good instant-read thermometer (I love this one) and keep your eye on your tenderloins.
Step 2 | Rub turkey with seasonings (may do up to 24 hours ahead)
Next, place the tenderloins in a medium bowl and toss to cover with oil. Add the turkey seasoning mixture in a separate small bowl to combine. Then, sprinkle the seasonings on the tenderloins, using your hands to rub them into the tops and sides of the turkey tenderloins.
If desired, cover the seasoned tenderloins in the fridge for about 24 hours to dry brine.
Step 3 | Air fry tenderloins, rest, slice, and serve!
Now, set the tenderloins in the air fryer in a single layer and cook for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through. Once the meat reaches an internal temperature of 165° F, remove it from the air fryer and set it on a cutting board. Tent the tenderloins with foil and let them rest for 5-10 minutes. Then, slice and serve!
Turkey Tenderloin Cooking Times
- For small, thin turkey tenderloins (like mine, < ½ pound) air fry 5 minutes, flip and cook another 5 minutes.
- For medium turkey tenderloins (< ¾ pound), air fry for 7-10 minutes, flip and cook about 7 more minutes.
- Large turkey tenderloins > 1 pound each. Air fry for 15-20 minutes, flip and cook for 10 more minutes.
For all types, use an instant-read meat thermometer and remove from air fryer when the turkey tenderloins reach 165° F internal temperature.
Fresh Tips
- The cooking time will vary based on your air fryer brand and model. Always cook turkey until it reaches an internal temperature of 165° F using an instant-read thermometer.
- Use an avocado or olive oil spray to coat the air fryer tray or basket, not baking spray.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer. The hot air needs to circulate all around the meat. So, cook the tenderloins in batches, if necessary.
Is turkey tenderloin the same as turkey breast?
Turkey breast and tenderloin are two different cuts. Turkey breasts are usually larger with skin and meat. This lean meat is from the front of the turkey and has a grainy texture. On the other hand, tenderloin is smaller and taken from the underside of the breast, where there is no skin. Tenderloin is lean and tender with a mild flavor.
