It’s May already, it’s going by fast, and sometimes I just want to yell, “Stop the world, I wanna get off.” How about you? 😉
May has always been nutty in our house. Especially when you have kids in school; special field trips, presentations, Field days, commencements, continuations, graduations, plays, concerts and more!
If you are in that season—you’ve got this! Just take one day at a time, sometimes an hour or minute at a time, and remember that sometimes you have to so “no” to the good things in life! I’ll tell you more about that lesson in the A Week in My Life section.
Today, we’ve got some fabulous Kentucky Derby recipes for you: a sensational Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding (great for leftover cinnamon rolls!), a quiche recipe you will want to save for Mother’s Day, and Cinco de Mayo is this weekend, too! The winners circle for foodies!
Not to mention that we’ve got basketball and hockey playoffs – Go Nuggs and Avs (my hubby says, go Celtics and Bruins)! Be sure to check out my appetizers & snacks.
Plus, all of the usual stuff: trending recipes, what readers are saying, sales and deals, and a little encouragement for the soul!
Make a Golden Milk Latte to sip on, stay calm and let’s carry on!

What’s Bakin’?
#1 Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce
The vanilla butter sauce alone is worth making this bread pudding. But seriously, this is a delicious bread pudding and great if you happen to have some leftover cinnamon rolls lying around. My first thought is, “What’s a leftover cinnamon roll?” Bwahh!!!! 😉 Bake up a big batch of my Gooey Cinnamon Rolls and tuck a few away just for this recipe!
#2 Hash Brown Crust Quiche with Prosciutto
This is one of my more popular breakfast recipes originally posted in 2018! It desperately needed a refresh, so I gave it a makeover and re-photographed it! YAY! Still the same tried and true recipe, perfect for Mother’s Day brunch!
# 3 Ever made a Kentucky Butter Cake?
An old-fashioned butter pound cake recipe is not only easy, but it’s oh-so-good! Kentucky butter cake is slightly different than pound cake only in that you pour a glaze over the hot bundt cake as it comes out of the oven, it soaks in and creates a sweet crust on the cake! I can almost guarantee it will become a favorite!

A week in my life…
In past newsletters, I have titled one of my May posts, “The crazy that is May,” and it still holds true for this year, it just is! The best advise I received in premarital counseling was this, “Sometimes you have to say “no” to the good things” I cannot tell you how many times I have filtered something begging for my attention based on that advice. It’s hard for us “yes” people, especially when it’s something good or fun; we don’t want FOMO, after all! But it’s served me well through the years.
Here’s my filter process: What is the request >> time commitment >> time of day (see my Fun Fact below)? Other commitments (look at the calendar!); what have I been doing (I have two nights out in a row maximum; more than that, I get a little cranky with my family.) Is it for a family member (these are the exceptions), there’s probably more, but this will get you started.
Wacky Weather: We had a torrential downpour on Friday (it gave me PTSD after what happened to my husband last year; you can read about it here) – then Saturday started with rain, turned to sleet, snow, sleet, back to rain; needless to say it was wonderful moisture – Sunday was cool but beautiful! Welcome to May!
We hosted our house church, which is always life-giving, I made my famous Banana Bread.
I also hosted book club this week — been friends with most of these women for over 20 years! We met in MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and have been great friends ever since! I highly encourage you young moms to find a MOPs group to join! We read a book written by the dad of one of the gals in our group, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Fireflies at Dusk – a Civil War novel.
We are getting ready to head out for our oldest son’s graduation next week! You may or may not hear from me depending on how next week goes! After graduating in 2020 (Do I need to say it? He got nothing except a drive-by diploma), I am so ready to celebrate him and his accomplishments.

Fun Fact About Me: Cinderella Syndrome
What I mean by that is that I turn into a pumpkin around 8:30 p.m. Most of my friends know this and understand now why I leave events or gatherings early. The hard part is that my husband is that way now, too!
I have always been an early bird, morning person, etc. Even in college I once had a roommate who came home (it was about 5:30 pm) and I’d had a long day of classes, I was already in my jammies, not ready to sleep, but certainly ready to just chill — and she gave me one look and said, “NO WAY, get dressed, we’re going out.”
She did drag me out (she is an amazing singer and musician) to a recording she was doing, and you know most musicians are night owls. The only thing I remember was her waking me up around 2 a.m. on a bench in the studio. Yeah, that’s me, Pumpkin. Just show me to my bed! 😉 Below is a little giggle for you!

Grad Gift Ideas
I have been scouring the internet for creative and fun grad gift ideas that don’t break the bank! I must say, I’m disappointed by what I found from others, it’s either lame (in my opinion) or super expensive, so I did a little digging myself. Here are a few that caught my eye — BUT if you have ideas, please shoot them over to me!
- For guys, I like this slim wallet with a spot for an Air Tag and honestly, hard-sided luggage is a great gift! Otherwise, I’m coming up empty!
- So I went simple, how about an Emotional Support Pickle or potato and good old, hard cash!
- For guys or girls, this personalized book art is unique (not cheap though) or go super practical with this alarm clock!
- Bookworms? Love this Willow Tree figure.
- For girls, I really like these Sorority bracelets (customized) or this Pendent necklace or this simple beaded bracelet or this smaller, chain and stone version.
I put a whole lot more in my weekly finds — be sure to check it out!
Fresh Inspiration:
This has long been a favorite scripture in our house; in fact, when our boys were little, and they would have night terrors, we’d say this scripture verse over them, and eventually, they learned it too! We even had hand motions! I even sent it to our son who is interviewing for jobs, such a great reminder!
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
