In the here and now | Real-life stories
Another full week, here’s the recap! Our youngest came home again this weekend and we celebrated his 20th birthday! What, he was just going into Kindergarten!
We had our dear widowed neighbor over for her birthday dinner — 87 years young, I really pray I am like her when I grow up! She runs circles around me!
I was pooped on Tuesday, but I made myself go to book club, I love these women; we’ve been in each other’s lives for 2 decades (at least), when we met at our MOPS group! I am so glad that I went! I didn’t read the book, but that didn’t stop me from going! Most everyone really liked it!
Oh, and on Saturday my husband and I hauled and stacked a cord of wood to prepare for winter! Glad we did, because we’re supposed to get several inches of snow this weekend!
Our favorite Halloween night meal
I’ve been making this Cinnamon chili for decades, it’s unique in it’s incredible flavors and not too hot chili and you must have Sweet buttermilk cornbread to go with it!
Best Cinnamon Chili Recipe (Firecracker Chili)
This unique, spicy (but not hot) Cinnamon Chili recipe is the perfect chilly night meal! Cinnamon chili is an award-winning family and neighbor favorite! It is the best chili recipe ever. Stovetop or crockpot directions.
Best Sweet Cornbread Recipe {Buttermilk Cornbread}
A deliciously succulent sweet buttermilk cornbread, with a slightly sweet and tender crumb; serve warm dripping with butter and honey. Is a great side with chili, soups or stews.
Main Floor Remodel Update | Week 16
Our contractor couldn’t get here this weekend (travel soccer tournament for his son), but slowly and surely we’re getting things put back together. I try and unpack a few boxes each week. So here’s a pretty little vignette I put together on our coffee table instead!
I love these candles and try and buy one or two each year (they aren’t cheap) but love the Luminara brand the best. The pumpkin was a gift from a friend (love!) and I love these chunky coasters and this is still my favorite decorating tray!
Have you tried…
- Ever made Funeral Sandwiches? Aka, the most amazing Ham and Cheese sandwiches!
- Make your own pizza dough (makes 2, eat one, freeze one)!

Crockpot London Broiil
Take a normally tough cut of meat and make into something amazing!
Simply amazing! My first time ever cooking London Broil and this was off the charts! I’ve eaten before but it certainly never tasted like this… I added more liquids to have extra gravy. I didn’t have red wine in the house so I used extra broth but I can’t wait to try it with the wine. So, so good! Tender and juicy

Weekly Inspiration | There is Hope in the Waiting
Yes, once again love, love love this devotion, I have probably given away 20 copies of this book, and everyone has loved it. I hope you get it, too!
“Breathe Deep and Know: There is always hope when you are waiting, because God can be trusted to always keep His word.
Seasons of waiting can be painfully long and hard. But waiting time is not wasted time. God wastes nothing. He is always doing some-thing. God is working as we wait, regardless of whether we can see or understand wha tHe is doing.
Not only is He working through the circumstances around us, but He is workign within us, preparing and shaping us as we wait. Because of this, we can always have hope. Tish Harrison Warren says, “To hope is to ‘borrow grace.’ It is not naive optimism. Hope amidst the truth of our vulnerability. It does not trust God to keep all bad things from happening. But it assumes that redemption, beauty, and goodness will be there for us, whatever lies ahead.” (excerpt from Prayer in the Night — reading right now too). God’s Word is our hope in the waiting, because His Word reminds us that He is with us and that He always keeps His word.
What are you waiting for today? Root your hope in God’s Word as you wait, and let His promises give you peace.
inhale: I wait for you, Lord;
exhale: My hope is in your Word.”
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope.
Psalm 130:5
