In the here and now | Real-life stories
In the blogging world, there was an outcry this past week as Google pushed out an update that hurt a lot of bloggers, I am very grateful I didn’t seem to be one of them but easily could have been. Which is why it is SO important that you come back week after week, I don’t take that for granted.
Did you know?
While one of the main ways bloggers grow is from Google search results, however; what bloggers love the most is when readers tell their friends about our blogs! So, here’s a shameless plug, would you share your favorite recipe from The Fresh Cooky with a friend or tell someone about the blog this month? Thank you; it means the world to me!
As mentioned, Mr. Fresh Cooky and I got away for 4 days in the mountains last week! We first so grateful for the generosity of dear friends who offered us their cabin. The colors were glorious and just getting started, the mornings and evenings cool and brisk.
We enjoyed a couple of nights alone, great friends were traveling back from Crested Butte and stopped by to catch up for a few hours and enjoy the river, and then other dear friends joined us for a few days. We hiked, played games, ate great food, slept great! Below are a few pictures from our weekend.

What I’m Loving | Favorite Kitchen Tools
As we approach the busy holiday season, these are my favorite kitchen tools that are big-time savers!
- Microplane Grater/Zester | Use this handy tool for everything from zesting citrus, to parmesan or other hard cheeses; it’s great for garlic and ginger and also chocolate and nutmeg. It’s in my dishwasher daily!
- Citrus Squeezer | This is a super sturdy, efficient hand juice presser. I have the lime size, if I were to buy now, I’d buy the lemon size. You can put smaller limes in the lemon, but it’s harder to put larger lemons in the lime.
- My Favorite Knife | I use this Santoku knife for almost everything! It’s a moderately priced excellent knife.
- I love Snapware containers, BPA-free lids, and solid glassware that can go from freezer to microwave + made in the USA.
- I love making overnight oats in these pretty mugs!

Weekly Inspiration | If You’re Feeling Lonely…Read This
“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.” Psalm 25:16-17 (ESV) |
There were many feelings I expected to have at an event I’d been looking forward to attending. Acceptance. Fun. Camaraderie. These were my people: They lead organizations. I lead an organization. They are vulnerable. I am vulnerable. Like me, they know the stresses of deadlines, trying to balance family with ministry, and the fact that we use all those meal delivery apps for dinner more than we’d like to admit. Yes, I couldn’t wait to be with these people. And I couldn’t wait for the deep friendships that would surely bloom as a result of our time together. Walking into the meeting room, I quickly located the table of the people I was excited to meet. Every seat had a name tag attached, so I circled the table looking for mine. As I got to the last chair and realized my name wasn’t there, my heart sank. I milled around the room, feeling increasingly out of place. Finally, at a table on the opposite side of the room, I found my name. The Lord must have a special plan for me to meet and connect with the others assigned to my table, I thought. Taking my seat, I pulled out my cell phone and waited nervously for my tablemates. I waited. And waited. And waited. Read the rest by LYSA TERKEURST |
