Here’s what’s cooking for this months challenge:
🍲 Firecracker Chili – Don’t worry, it’s not as spicy as it sounds, but you can turn up the heat if you like it hot! 🔥 I call it my spicy, but not hot chili. Packed with rich flavors that’ll warm you right up!
🍞 Sweet Buttermilk Cornbread – Remember Marie Callender’s cornbread? This is just like it…but even better! You’ll love how soft and sweet it is. 😋
🍯 Homemade Honey Butter – You can’t have cornbread without some buttery goodness, right? Whip up my quick and easy honey butter to drizzle over that warm cornbread and get a third entry!

We’re excited to kick off our October challenge with not one, but three options to make this month. I hope you’ll join in the fun and make some delicious memories with us!
How it Works
The concept is super simple: Each month, I choose a recipe (or three!). You make it and leave a comment on the recipe’s blog post. At the end of the month, I randomly select one winner to receive the prize.
BONUS ENTRIES:
- Snap a photograph* of your recipe using your phone or camera and email it to [email protected] with OCtober Cooking Club in the subject line. *just of the food, no people, pretty, please!
- Post your photo on Instagram and/or Facebook for another bonus entry, tagging @thefreshcooky and #TheFreshCookyCookingClub. Sometimes, with the algorithm, I miss those, so when you email me, let me know you shared the photo on social, so I can go and look for it!
- 💡 Bonus: Don’t forget, you’ll earn an entry for each recipe you make this month! And if you share pictures of your creations, you’ll score some bonus entries! 📸
The Prize: A $100 Amazon Gift Card!
At the end of the month, I’ll randomly select a winner and share some of your photos. As the holidays approach, we can all use a little extra Amazon cash! This month we’re giving away a $100 Amazon gift card.
October’s Recipes (3 choices!)
- Firecracker Chili: This spicy but not hot chili is packed with unique spices like cinnamon that give it amazing flavor. Friends rave every time I make it! You can customize it by adjusting the heat or swapping in your favorite beans or protein. It’s perfect with all your favorite chili toppings! How will you make it?
- Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Cornbread: Sweet, tender, and comforting—just like the classic cornbread you love! Customize it with add-ins like cheese, jalapeños, or fresh corn, and bake in a muffin tin (18-20 minutes) or a 9×13-inch pan. It’s perfect on its own or paired with chili! What will you add in?
- 🍯 Whipped Honey Butter: Light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet! This honey butter is the perfect topping for cornbread, muffins, or even pancakes. Add a dash of cinnamon or vanilla for a flavor boost.

What’s Your TWIST?
Here at The Fresh Cooky, I’m all about making recipes your own! How will you tweak these to fit your family’s taste?
- Got a garden full of zucchini? Shred some into your chili! Not a fan of olives? Skip ‘em! Too many beans in chili for your liking? Leave some out and add more ground beef—or swap in ground turkey or chicken. Want to go veggie? Add extra beans and skip the meat. You do you!
- For the cornbread, toss in some fresh corn or chopped jalapeños for a little extra kick!
- Need it gluten-free? No problem! Use a high-quality gluten-free All-Purpose Flour. You might need to add more liquid so the batter isn’t too dry or sticky, and start checking for doneness a few minutes early.
